General Intern (Academic Year / Course Credit)

The Chicago 2024 Host Committee (Host Committee) is open to bringing on academic year interns to assist with planning and executing the Democratic National Convention in August. The Democratic National Convention will be held August 19-22, 2024.

The academic year internship is an unpaid internship opportunity available to all high school and college-level students who are eligible for course credit at their schools or are otherwise funded by outside externship or apprenticeship programs. Candidates must submit documentation related to their academic institution and the course/funding details with the Subject Line: "Host Committee Internship - Academic Year" to jobs@chicago2024.com in addition to the below application.

The interns will work closely with and report to one of the following departments:

  • Accessibility: The Accessibility team focuses on meeting ADA requirements for all events, programs, and the 2024 Convention.
  • Civic & Community Engagement: The Civic & Community Engagement team focuses on activating all 77 neighborhoods in Chicago through volunteer and service opportunities, as well as engaging the broader Illinois community in the Convention.
  • Communications: The Communications team drives Convention messaging with a special focus on the City of Chicago. The team handles all internal and external communications, including but not limited to press releases, remarks, newsletters, social posts, and public-facing updates.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): The DEI team focuses on creating a diverse and inclusive convention by engaging local businesses, supporting a diverse workforce throughout the convention planning.
  • Event Management & Production: The Event Management & Production team is responsible for planning and executing the major events surrounding the Convention. This team is responsible for venue selection, site visits, event coordination and all event logistics.
  • Partnerships & Donor Relations: The Partnerships & Donor Relations team focuses on raising the necessary funds to execute the Convention, including sponsorship opportunities with partner organizations.
  • Operations: The Operations team is responsible for managing the Committee’s budget, managing the Host Committee HQ office and ensuring all teams have the resources they need to support the Convention.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship.
  • Open to all students
  • Access to public transportation or other methods in order to commute to the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago.

Selection Criteria:

  • Meets eligibility requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and other interns.
  • A demonstrated commitment to public service to your community
  • Preference will be given to Chicago and/or Illinois residents.
