Latin American Authors Book Club: The Black Cathedral
Chicago Public Library
Are you interested in reading books by international authors? Join the Latin American Authors Book Club. Each month, you will experience a variety of literature written by contemporary Latin American authors.
This month's title is The Black Cathedral by Marcial Gala from Cuba.
A preacher moves his family to a marginalized Cuban neighborhood to build a grand cathedral and create a new Jerusalem. As the structure rises, so does a generation marked by violence and despair. Told by a chorus of voices, it is a darkly comic indictment of modern Cuba.
