City Colleges of Chicago Student Internship

Under general supervision, the summer intern is assigned to a department within one of the seven City Colleges of Chicago or partner organizations to assist in general administrative functions to develop a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government.

As an intern you will:

• Learn about your area of career interest by observing and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed
• May assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs
• May assist with collecting and organizing data for research
• May suggest solutions to existing problems and discuss recommendations with direct supervisor
• Assists with special projects as assigned

All positions are for 20 hours a week. In addition to work experience, you will gain skills in resume writing, conflict resolution, financial literacy and job readiness.

Prerequisites:

• Currently enrolled in Spring 2024, Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 in any program at one of the City Colleges of Chicago including GED, ESL, Dual Enrollment, Dual Credit, certificate or associate degree
• Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago, student activities, college resources and student services
• Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural and social backgrounds
• Good oral communication skills
• Knowledge of computer software programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Previous experience is beneficial but not required

Examples of jobs include: Junior project assistant, camp counselor, teacher assistant, enrollment assistant, junior outreach associate or camp leader.
