Proficient Oration of Extraordinary Minds (P.O.E.M.) (Austin/Westide 2015)

Let's get creative! Let's get out EXACTLY what's on our minds OR write our way through it. P.O.E.M. is that outlet! Students will be given instruction and direction on not only how to craft poignant poems but also how to present them publically and self-publish a comprehensive anthology of their literary creations. This is a goal driven workshop that inherently promotes reading, writing, research, and critical, creative and analytical thinking without seeming too scholastic to the young scholars. Students will cover writing and performance techniques, create and critique their own work, work as a team to publish their own chapbook (&/or optional video documentary) and produce their own culminating event for an audience. Students will stay engaged and interested as they build their body of written and performance work. Parents and educators should see improvements in students’ reading and writing scores along with a broader vocabulary over time as our program, with integrative curriculum correlative to your school’s lessons, will sharpen these abilities. Our aim is to strengthen analytic left brain thinking by engaging and stimulating creative right brain work. We expect that at completion students will have a better view of themselves and the world around them which undoubtedly will lead to better performance in school and life.
