NVAM Education is dedicated to creating meaningful and transformative learning experiences for youth, educators and museum patrons. We promote connected learning through fine arts, civics, and youth facing interactive programming rooted in the exploration of personal narratives and global citizenship. Learners whose artwork exhibits skill, reflection and knowledge will be selected to participate in the NVAM Arts Ambassador Internship program. The Youth Arts Ambassador Internship program allows teens interested in art, storytelling and digital media the opportunity to work in a museum environment. Learners create multi-media art projects, maintain a teen-focused blog and work one-on-one with veteran artists and museum professionals. Participants will work collaboratively and independently to create, mount and exhibit artwork at the museum. Teens will gain work experience by performing day-day tasks at the museum, have hands-on experience with the museum's collection, and facilitate art workshops. Learners develop skills in arts administration, learn how to analyze art in relationship to art history and theory, and learn how to create an online arts portfolio. Additionally interns will learn how to use art as a tool for social change, how to express themselves creatively and how to connect their own life stories to the artwork in our permanent collection while building dialogue with other artists and peers.

Criteria

1. Learners and mentors will critique artwork in relationship to art in the museum’s collection. Learners are required to complete an online portfolio, publish artwork and artist statement on the blog, and successfully display artwork in the student art exhibition at the museum. Learners are required to submit a video piece, a 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional piece of their choice.
