Criteria

  1. [required] The student demonstrates the desire to contribute to a larger body of scientific work by actively participating in research (ex: participates in a citizen science project, volunteers on a science team, etc.)
  2. [required] The student documents and presents their research and findings using methods that are commonly utilized by the larger scientific community.
  3. The student explains to others (e.g. the public, family, peers) how his/her work connects to and is part of the work of the larger scientific community.
  4. [required] The student describes the ethical practices in scientific investigation and follows those practices (e.g. honesty, disclosure)
  5. [required] The student identifies sources of bias that may potentially affect outcomes and data analysis (e.g. conflict of interest, stereotypes, false assumptions) and Identifies 1-2 sources of bias on their own research or investigation.
  6. [required] The student identifies and employs 1-2 strategies to reduce influence of bias on one's research or investigation.
  7. [required] The student names 1-2 professional communities and/or organizations in their field of interest.
  8. [required] The student listens to a STEM profesional present to another STEM professional in a formal setting (e.g. conference, online, etc.)
