Basketball Sports Officiating @ Rauner YMCA
After School Matters
The Basketball Sports Officiating Program leads teens towards becoming licensed athletic officials and obtaining part-time employment refereeing games at schools, fieldhouses, and youth centers in their communities. In addition to the official basketball rules of the Illinois High School Association, teens practice the different roles they must play and positions they must hold on the court as referees. They learn how to make referee signals and to communicate infractions professionally to players, coaches, and fans while maintaining order and safety in the game. For the programs final project teens, working on a team of two or three teen officials, referee a game at the Rauner Family Y that is open to the public.
