Radical Imaginations @ The Commons
Sweet Water Foundation
Radical Imaginations @ The Commons is a family-friendly event with activities for all skill levels and ages. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the earth and engage in environmental STEM and arts activities. The day will include various stations such as:
1. Seed Starting: Reconnect with the earth and environment and learn about the process of growing plants directly from seed. During this activity, participants will see over 15 different types of seeds and will learn how/when to plant a seed and what happens after that seed is planted! Take home your newly planted seed and watch it grow! If time/weather permits, participants will also have an opportunity to transplant seedlings onto The Perry Ave. Community Farm. Learn when and why plants are transplanted.
2. Art-Making: Take time to express your creativity and learn a new art form during this rotation! Stations may include nature inspired crafts such as printmaking, coloring, painting, and using nature to express your imagination!
3. Explore Movement and Sound: Enjoy time on this spring day to explore movement and sound in the Thought Barn. Learn how the dance floors were made and the connection between dance, art, and carpentry.
During the Radical Imaginations Event, participants will be encouraged to engage with the environment in new ways, express their imaginations, and learn the role of Environmental-STEM principles in urban ecology.
