Mindfulness Leader

After School Matters

Through interactive lessons, students develop skills and strategies to learn how to cope with the day-to-day challenges of school, family, future planning and social/emotional stress. A 23 point curriculum mirrors the tools given to Mindfulness Leader graduates providing the resources to bring balance to the areas of social awareness, self-management, interpersonal skills, responsible behavior and decision-making skills. Essentially, during the ten-week course, students are equipped to strengthen their connection to their inner guidance (intuition) and self-confidence. Every lesson and teaching challenges students to consider theories and ideas that may be conflicting with what they currently believe. During this course series, students are guided through our unique mindfulness projects that are designed to help them consider the role that their emotions affect their behavior and enhance their ability to reach for a different perspective when the conditions of their environment are changed. Students explore mindfulness through various art projects such as vision boards, journaling, exercising in gratitude and appreciation. Additionally, students learn yoga and meditation. In one particular project, students write the Script of our Life -- explaining how they want their lives to play out. One of our wearable exercises has students hand making jewelry that represents the alignment of their intention and truth. Students tap into their inner artist and create canvases of inspirational quotes and affirmations like, I am in flow with the Universe. We incorporate readings from best-selling books like The Four Agreements into our class, and give back to the community, cooking for the homeless shelter. By the end of the program, students have personalized lessons that will trigger a natural instinct within them to reach for better, to dream what many would say is impossible, to reverse what they may have previously believed as a generational mandate.
