Saving Lives Inspiring Youth - Harper High School

After School Matters

This program gives teens opportunities to be mentors for the 9th graders in the Pre-Apprenticeship program, and to develop their personal and professional strengths through learning social and psychological skills having to do with healthy relationships, self-awareness, and career and college planning. Youth will create workshops for their mentees and, with their mentees, carry out a study of effective Afrocentric movements for peace, applied to Englewood within the framework of the Risk and Resilience Lab's Civic Engagement Curriculum. Youth will create a multimedia presentation about the Afrocentric peace-building initiatives, all of which will be celebrated in a Spring Community Forum for parents and community members, and uploaded onto the program's website.
