Heartland Human Care Services- Refugee Youth Summer Program - Christ Church of Chicago
After School Matters
Heartlands Youth and Family Services employs six Chicago Public High School teens aspiring to be teachers, youth workers, or community leaders. Teens in this internship develop leadership skills within a summer camp for refugee youth. Through the program, which provides literacy activities, field trips and recreational outings, the interns help the youth improve their English language skills, gain familiarity with their surroundings and form meaningful relationships and friendships across cultures. More specifically, teen interns provide support to the summer program through planning and leading activities, coordinating logistics and chaperoning groups.
