Spin Your Own Yarn
Chicago Public Library
Do you knit or crochet, or simply love all things craft? What if you could make your own yarn from scratch to use in your projects? Join Theo in learning the technique of spinning yarn on the drop spindle. You will lean the basics of spinning and plying, all that is needed to produce yarn from wool. No prior experience needed. Participants will be provided with spindles they will be allowed to bring home, and colorful wool to help make their ideas come to life.
All supplies will be provided for this program.
Theo Trotter is an artist making work which explores transness, alongside larger themes of transformations as necessary but painful experiences. Theo is interested in imagery which leads the viewer to the zone between attraction and repulsion as a way of exploring and challenging the dichotomy of injury and healing. Theo's work utilizes fiber and textile materials and practices; however, it crosses outside these boundaries into the categories of sculpture or installation. Currently, he is pursuing an MFA in fiber and material studies at SAIC.
This event is for teens ages 13-19.
Radical Fit is a Chicago Public Library YOUmedia initiative dedicated to teen fashion-making with a special focus on gender identity and equity.
