From Bills of Lading to Duolingo: The Story of Yiddish

Chicago Public Library

Yiddish is over 1,000 years old. It represents the history of East European Jewry, and finds a resurgence in places as distant as America and Australia. Professor Mallow will discuss its history, its literature, its humor and more. Dr. Jeffry V. Mallow was born in New York, where he attended Yiddish schools and earned a Bachelor of Jewish Literature degree. Dr. Mallow is Professor Emeritus of Physics, Loyola University Chicago. His primary research area has been quantum physics. He also initiated and led the study and alleviation of science anxiety, especially its connection to gender. He is the author or co-author of numerous books and articles on both. Dr. Mallow was National President of the Labor Zionist Alliance, the American wing of the movement from which became the Israel Labor Party. He is Honorary Chair of the Chicago YIVO Society. He is a member of the Forward Association, publisher of the English Forward and the Yiddish Forverts. He is currently co-authoring a book on great physicists' lives and achievements.
