Intermediate/Advanced ESL Civics

Chicago Public Library

Join Heartland Human Care Services for Intermediate/Advanced ESL Civics instruction. Participants who complete the ESL Civics classes will gain skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking as well as learn topics related to U.S. history and current events, which will prepare them to transition into civic engagement and the workforce. The classes are based on ESL principles with an emphasis on Civics education. The classes intend to connect language instruction to the real-world current issues. To understand basic civics in the United States is to understand how our government is set up. These classes are designed to give a deeper understanding of the United States government and the reasons why it was established. The classes will ensure that participants understand the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen. These classes will prepare participants for democracy by teaching them to respect the rights of others, vote in elections, obey the rule of law, actively support public causes, and participate intelligently in public debates and discussions. These classes are taught by Dr. Oboye O. Banjoki PhD from Heartland Human Care Services. THESE CLASSES ARE FOR INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED ENGLISH SPEAKERS ONLY. If you are a beginning student, please contact Heartland Human Care Services for basic instruction. How to AttendThis event takes place in person. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
