Christmas on State Street with Leslie Goddard
Chicago Public Library
For decades, Christmas in Chicago meant a trip or two to State Street to see the big department stores, and the stores went all-out for Christmas! Join us for an illustrated lecture that traces the history of Christmas celebrations on State Street and is presented by Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., historian and author of Lost Chicago Department Stores. Leslie will share photographs, ads, postcards, menus, and memorabilia to reminisce about cherished holiday traditions -- from the animated window displays and the Christmas parade to beloved characters like Uncle Mistletoe, the Cinnamon Bear, and of course, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.Registration is required.
