Discover Computing 2 - Creative Coding

Discovery Partners Institute

Thank you for having an interest in participating in our program Discover Computing! In the second installment of this series, Discover Computing 2 - Creative Coding, participating 9th and 10th graders engage in hands-on sessions to explore creative computing concepts and tools, including using code to create interactive murals, make logos, and more, as well as develop skills in problem-solving and team-building through design thinking activities. Students will also start their own web portfolio to highlight their programming skills. This portfolio can be added to their resume and LinkedIn profile and serves to capture their progress as developers. Discover Computing 2 is designed to students who are enrolled in, or have completed an introductory-level CS course (e.g., Exploring Computer Science), or the first Discover Computing session.

This program intentionally serves Chicago-area students, first-generation students, and students of color — at NO cost.

To be considered, students must:

  • be a 9th or 10th grader
  • demonstrate an interest in Computer Science or tech-related fields (ie: computer engineering, computer or data science, entrepreneurship, etc.)
  • attend Virtual Orientation January 14th at 6:00pm-7:00pm

DEADLINE
The priority deadline is December 13th 11:59pm. The application will close once the program is full.
