This event will be a vibrant celebration of community and culture, offering a range of artistic, educational, and entertaining experiences for all ages. this fest will have a series of events that will lead up to the main Día de los Muertos celebration. Details of these activities are as follows:
10/26: Frame Decoration Workshop/Activity 11am to 1pm
Kick off our Día de los Muertos celebrations by personalizing picture frames to honor loved ones. In this hands-on workshop, participants will create beautiful, vibrant frames to display photos of those being remembered. All supplies are provided, and you’ll leave with a meaningful keepsake to add to our community altar with ofrenda. Hosted at PODER HQ - Jennifer Franco
10/28: Sugar Skull Decorations Class 3pm to 5:30pm
Get creative with a classic Día de los Muertos tradition! Learn how to decorate sugar skulls using colorful icing, glitter, and embellishments. This class is perfect for all ages, as we explore the symbolic meaning of sugar skulls and celebrate the vibrant spirit of the holiday. Hosted at the Gage park Public Library.
10/29: Pumpkin Carving and Día de los Muertos Crafts 6PM to 9pm
Embrace the seasonal fun by carving pumpkins with a Día de Muertos twist! In addition to pumpkin carving, we’ll offer a variety of Dia de muertos crafts that celebrate the rich culture of the holiday. This activity is ideal for families and kids who want to mix Halloween fun with cultural traditions. Hosted by CircEsteem, CP4P and SWOP at St. Claire.
11/02: Candle and Sugar Skull Decoration Workshop/Activity 10am to 11am
Create beautifully decorated candles and sugar skulls to honor your ancestors. In this special workshop, we will combine creativity and remembrance as participants craft personalized candles and adorn more sugar skulls to contribute to our Día de los Muertos community Altar. Hosted at PODER HQ
MAIN EVENT:
11/02: Día de los Muertos Community Altar and Resources 12pm to 5pm
Join our community as we come together to build a shared altar in celebration of Día de los Muertos. Bring a photo or item of a loved one to place on the altar. This event will also offer valuable resources, including information about the holiday's cultural significance and ways to honor those who have passed.
