Artist Talk with Philip Mallory Jones

Listen to artist Philip Mallory Jones chat about his work conceptualizing and designing the video game Time Machine Bronzeville, a dynamic cityscape around East 47th St. and South Parkway Blvd - the heart of Bronzeville - on Chicago’s South Side. Players can explore this virtual diorama and be transported into immersive scenes to discover the sights and sounds of the Black Metropolis, as it was known, through dramatic vignettes, archival photos, media, and audio. Philip Mallory Jones is a Chicago native, currently based in Atlanta. He is an internationally recognized artist and educator, known for a multifaceted career that spans more than fifty years, and encompasses games, film, video, and literature. Among his numerous awards are grants and fellowships from the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the American Film Institute. This event is in conjunction with the preview exhibit Time Machine Bronzeville, on display now at the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library. The full exhibit can be viewed at Chicago Gamespace.
