Scientists for Tomorrow
Scientist for Tomorrow Secondary Youth Program grades 6th through 8th is an informal science after school program educating urban youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The goal of the program is to encourage and educate participants in STEM career related fields. Scientists for Tomorrow consists of self-developed science and technology curricula, such as “Alternative Energies,” “The Physics of Sound and Mathematics of Music,” “People and Plants” and “Robotics.” Activities include the construction of solar power carts, built by using a photovoltaic array; the building of a monochord, windchime and xylophone, based off of scaled frequencies; experimentation with variables related to plant growth and human survival; and lastly, designing and building three types of robots with a basis in logic.
Scientist for Tomorrow is an informal science out of school time program, educating urban youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The goal of the program is to encourage and educate participants in STEM career related fields. The Introduction to Robotics Module will immerse participants in the world of machines and robots as students build Mousetrap Carts, Art Bots and RoboBugs. From learning the difference between machines and robots to using teamwork to design and test robots, participants will learn new skills in programming and a new appreciation for the technology used all around us.
