Be the voice of today! The Mayor's Youth Commission Application for the 2024-2025 cohort is now open.
The Mayor's Youth Commission (MYC) is made up of 40 Chicagoans ages 14-19. Youth Commissioners will serve as liaisons between Mayor's Office and Chicago's youth. Working alongside the Mayor and his team, Youth Commissioners will meet on a monthly basis to foster youth-driven civic engagement and amplify youth voices to impact the city's critical policy conversations.
The 2024-2025 MYC will be divided into four working groups that will focus on the following issue areas: education, public health, community safety and neighborhood development. Each Youth Commissioner will be placed in one working group and will be asked to rank their choices later in this application. Working group meetings and communication will take place in between the main monthly commission meetings. Each working group will present a proposal for a new idea to address an issue that impacts youth within their working group topic. Commissioners are expected to maintain regular attendance and engagement with their working groups and the larger Commission.
Each commissioner will be paid a stipend, provided free CTA passes and refreshments for their work. Youth Commissioners will work about 5-10 hours per month including attending monthly meetings and contributing to additional projects. Youth commissioners can serve up to two years and must commit to attending monthly meetings, working group meetings and respond to all MYC communication. Throughout the year, youth commissioners are connected to networking and volunteer opportunities, help to plan large-scale youth events, and have many opportunities to engage with leaders in our city.
Application Process
MYC members are selected through a rigorous process including an application review and group interviews.
We are looking for youth who have a strong connection to their community, a passion about issues that impact youth and interest in collaborating with City leaders to impact Chicago’s future.
The 2024-2025 application will close on June 15, all interested youth should submit their applications by this deadline. Note: the 2024-2025 cohort will begin in mid-September. Should you have any questions please email mayorsyouthcommission@cityofchicago.org.
