Computational Science Course (Idea Shop) 2015

Illinois Institute of Technology

High school students interested in science, math, and computation will learn about these topics in exciting and unconventional ways by enrolling in IIT's Computational Science course in summer 2015. The course will integrate math, physics, and chemistry, with computation as the unifying concept. The course will consist of hands-on activities with the goal of learning "big ideas" by using computation to explore optimization and patterns in science and nature. Students will find the answers to questions such as "How do Google Maps work?" and "Has Facebook turned six degrees of separation into five?" with engaging activities and minimal lecturing, using real-world tools such as Mathematica, a popular computation tool used on most college campuses.
