POSITION SUMMARY

The SAC Group Leader reports to the Youth Program Coordinator in planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive school age activities (for children ages 5 to 12) which meet licensing and accreditation standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Plans, implements, and evaluates developmentally appropriate classroom activities, which meet the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, language, and health needs of school age children. This includes lesson plans, daily schedules, room arrangement, and use of materials/methods.

· Plan STEAM activities for students throughout the year. Focus on developmentally appropriate literacy skills and maintain interest areas consisting of math, social studies, literacy, dramatic play, and arts and crafts that students may access during free time.

· Integrates multi-cultural activities, including the cultural heritage of the children served into the lesson plans.

· Maintains a physical environment (room & materials) that is clean, safe, and conducive to children’s learning. Recommends purchasing of equipment & materials.

· Develops a supportive relationship with parents. Participates in regular parent-teacher conferences and appropriate parent meetings.

· Facilitates a team approach. Encourages and supports team’s professional development.

· Participates in self-evaluation and program evaluation.

· Completes student attendance forms and food record forms, and all other forms, as required by funding sources, according to their timeline and requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience:

· A Bachelors Degree in Education, (either elementary or early childhood) is preferred, along with one year of experience in a primary aged classroom. Alternately, a Bachelors Degree in a related field, with at least six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) related to school-age child care, child development, or elementary education, along with one year of experience in a primary aged classroom, or

· Associates Degree in Education (elementary or early childhood), along with 2 years experience working with children in a classroom setting, or

· Thirty semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university with six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields; or

· 1560 clock hours of experience in a recreational program or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a license exempt school-age child care program operated by a public or private school, and six semester hours (or nine quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university related to school-age child care, child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, camping or other related fields; or

· A high school diploma or equivalency certificate plus 3120 clock hours of experience in a recreational program, kindergarten, or licensed day care center serving school-age children or a license exempt school-age child care program operated by a public or private school.

Skills/Knowledge:

· Fluent spoken and written English; Mandarin or Cantonese preferred.

· Advanced computer skills, e.g. word processing, Excel, internet, etc.
