Viewers of the Exhibition: Archibald Motley: Jazz Age Modernist will have the opportunity to explore the work of a remarkable painter which spans 50 years and various periods of his lifelong career. Motley is considered a major contributor to the Harlem Renaissance, a role he played while living in Chicago for most of his life. He chronicled the African-American experience and gave a radical interpretation of urban culture of the Jazz Age 1920s and 1930s in Bronzeville and beyond. Students may experience a special connection to this artist who attended Englewood High School and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
