Description:

100 Level - No experience necessary

The iconic visuals that represent our city didn't just appear out of thin air - somebody had to design them. Now, we're counting on you to remix some of those classic designs that make Chicago stand out!

CHALLENGE: Take your pick of the templates available in the resources section and add your own style to the design. You can redesign them using a digital tool, or you can print them out, color them in, and take a picture of your work.

We've included the following templates to help you get started:

1. A blank Chicago skyline.

2. The Chicago flag.

3. A blank basketball uniform. How would the Chicago Bulls or the Chicago Sky look on the court if you were the designer?

4. A blank baseball uniform. Which team do you want to design for- the Cubs, the White Sox, Jackie Robinson West?

5. The mighty Chicago Bears logo needs an update, can you pull it off?

6. Or, maybe you're more of a hockey fan, try remixing the Blackhawks logo.

SUBMIT your new design. Our graphic design experts will be looking for creativity, so don't hold back! The best designs will be featured in local Best Buy stores!

DIGITAL TOOL

If you want to create your designs digitally, try using Pixlr, it's a free online photo and graphics editor that you can check out here http://apps.pixlr.com/editor/

Here are some steps to help you get started on Pixlr.

1. Download the template you want to remix. You can find these in the "Resources" section, or you can simply drag them to your desktop from above.

2. Go to http://apps.pixlr.com/editor/

3. Click the "Open image from computer" option and select the template you just saved.

4. Once you have your template open, you can get to work using the tools on the left side of the screen.

5. You can fill in large areas using the paint bucket tool, you can draw freehand using the pencil or paintrbush tools, or you can add text by clicking the text tool (the button has the letter "A" on it).

6. Once your design is ready to go, you can save it by clicking the File menu in Pixlr (make sure you click the "File" in Pixlr, not in your web browser!). After clicking "File," click "Save" and give your new design a name.

7. After your design is saved, submit the file here by clicking the "Submit" button.

Here is an example of what a final design could look like. For this, our designer wanted to keep most of the colors of the Chicago Bulls' current uniform, but also decided to add some yellow and grey to the mix.

That's a wrap, have fun designing!
