The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago serves the public by fostering a healthy economy and supporting a stable financial system. Together with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., the Chicago Fed and 11 other regional Reserve Banks make up the U.S. central bank, known as the Federal Reserve or just the Fed. At the Chicago Fed, we serve the Seventh Federal Reserve District, a diverse region that is the heart of the Midwest. We contribute to the creation of national monetary policy, supervise and regulate banks and similar institutions, operate payment systems, and provide financial services as the bank for banks.
