Established in 1991 as a joint effort between the City of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Center for Literacy (CFL) promotes educational equity and community-based social capital through multigenerational literacy programming, research, and partnerships. Each year, CFL serves over 5000 racially and linguistically diverse Chicago families each year in the South and West sides through a range of programming, including workshops in financial literacy and digital literacy for Head Start parents, GED courses, ESL classes, career transition services, teacher and volunteer training, and support for families of children with autism and developmental delays.
