buildOn serves communities most affected by poverty and violence in Chicago, developing a culture of service and educational advancement among the city’s youth. Chicago’s epidemic of gun violence has made national headlines in recent years, and buildOn’s Service Learning Program engages students from some of the neighborhoods most affected by violence. Students are empowered to lift up their communities by advocating and educating against violence, volunteering at homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and mentoring the next generation of engaged citizens.
