Uncomfortable Beauty is an art installation that explores the idea of beauty throughout the ages, and in all aspects of life. The installation imitates the department store aesthetic to create a commentary on the way advertisers and the media sell their ideas of beauty to the masses. Marketing strategists define for society what is beautiful and important. Uncomfortable Beauty allows the audience to formulate their own idea of beauty, rather than “buying” into the idea which society creates. The intent of the installation is to give power to the individual and create an environment where one is able to question beauty and its presence in everyday life.
