All summer long youth will be exploring their interests and discovering new ones through Chicago City of
Learning. CCOL’s Destination: Chicago - Summer Showcase is a three-part event that will recognize their
achievements and expose them to other opportunities.
1) The Maker Party will be held from 11am until 2:45pm. CCOL partner organizations will host a variety
of maker stations, where instructors and youth who have taken their programs can walk attendees
through hands-on activities. Those who attended the Destination: Chicago events this year on January
18 or May 10 will know what this festival of doing and making is all about. Anyone who didn’t can get a
feel for it by watching a video and reading a recap here.
2) The Gallery will display the work of youth who have participated in summer programs held by CCOL
partner organizations citywide. Lasting from 11am until 2:45pm, it will resemble a science fair, but the
artifacts exhibited will reflect learning that has happened in several different areas of interest.
3) The Performance Series will be held from 3 to 4pm. Youth who have gained performance skills over
the summer through programs offered by CCOL organizations will let them shine on stage with dance,
spoken word, music, a fashion show and more.
Youth who are enrolled in programs offered by Chicago City of Learning partner organizations this
summer can find out during programming about opportunities to participate in Summer Showcase. All
others are welcome to attend as guests. While youth engage in the active learning of the Maker Party,
peruse the Gallery and watch the Performance Series, they are sure to discover something new and
continue to learn about all Chicago offers. Several will even take home exciting raffle prizes!
