The Newbery Medalist badge represents the skill students gained in order to successfully create a children's book through collaborating with others in the program. In order to maintain a positive working environment so that good progress is made, students will need to recognize the importance of constructive criticism and peer feedback. With this they will compete to create the best "masterpiece" by the end of the six week summer program.

Criteria

  1. The ability to construct a children's book which has all aspects of a complete story (introduction, problem, resolution, conclusion, etc).
  2. A proper understanding of the significance of teamwork and peer feedback in order to achieve a common goal.
  3. The ability to enthusiastically present their "masterpiece" to their fellow peers and instructors on the last day of the six week program.
