The Community Changemaker badge recognizes IIT Boeing Scholars who successfully complete a Leadership Grant Project (LGP) over the course of 10 months (July through April of their junior year of high school). As part of our summer session (part of our two-year, integrated STEM enrichment program), rising juniors collaborate in teams to propose LGPs of their own design to be implemented over the course of the next year. Guided by Project Mentors (adult professionals), Scholars are empowered to promote positive change and create opportunities in their communities through LGPs. Additionally, students learn how to identify, frame, and justify the importance of a STEM-related problem in their community; develop and implement a 10-month project to address that problem; seek input and resources from professional and external organizations: collaborate on a team of diverse peers; and develop project management, budget planning, presentation skills; and other professional skills along the way. LGP groups who complete their projects present their work to an audience of 250 plus scholars, family members, and representatives of various organizations and companies at our end-of-year celebration.
